INFO:
Would you walk across? Did you know that the longest pedestrian swinging bridge in Pennsylvania is only a short drive from Pittsburgh, PA? If you are like me and like to go off the beaten path, this is a fun little adventure you may not have known about. Located in both Westmoreland and Armstrong Counties, the Hyde Park Footbridge is a 40 minute drive from Pittsburgh. The only legal parking area with quick access to the bridge is in Hyde Park on the Westmoreland County side. You do need to cross over an active railroad track to access the bridge, so use caution. There is a parking area across the bridge in Leechburg, but it says No Parking. A ferry accident in Hyde Park killed 8 people in 1913, so a wooden bridge was constructed in 1920 to allow people to cross the river. The current metal bridge was constructed in 1955. If you’d like to combine this quick stop with a hike nearby, here are three places to check out: 1. Harrison Hills Park in Natrona Heights—13 min drive 2. Rock Furnace Trail in Apollo—19 min drive 3. Todd Nature Reserve in Sarver—20 min drive I combined this with a hike through Todd Nature Reserve. I highly recommend a visit to this magical place. 🌟💫⭐️ This is a fun and unique stop, and I’m glad I checked it out. Have you walked across this bridge?
